Once again we chose to repeat the navy blue and pale yellow color scheme, this time for a charming guest bedroom. This room features a queen bed, and a small white dresser that matches the two blue dressers in the other two bedrooms.
The quilted comforter in varying shades of blue stripe gives the room a bit of a masculine feel, and the painted furniture throughout keeps the space casual. Mismatched furniture, including one blue and one white bedside table, broadcasts the cottage theme.
I love the blue knobs on this white dresser, and my favorite set of vintage Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books match perfectly here with the colors of the room. Most of our guests are cousins, so the room is full of classic reading material. Below, the white bedside table holds such great literature as Huckleberry Finn, the Great Gatsby, To Kill a Mockingbird, and more.
The antique white chair features a small pillow made out of an old quilt square. The white wood throughout the room keeps the summertime feeling all year round. A small white folding stand for a suitcase sits nearby for weekend visitors.
The floral painting in the center of the collage below was painted by my great grandmother. She and several of her daughters enjoyed oil painting, and their primitive style looks just right in our simple cottage.
We mixed a bit of bold graphics into this room, to appeal to guests with all sorts of tastes. While I love everything to be vintage and authentic, I wouldn't want some of my more "city" friends to feel as though they were stuck in a museum when they visit.
Horrible photo exposure aside, this old pie safe makes a great bedside table. A few more books hide within!
This bright watercolor came with the house, and was crammed into a tiny hallway space. It is much happier here above the bed!
